Guidebook for the Parenting and Caregiving Support System for Faculty Members

This university created a “guidebook for the parenting and caregiving support system for faculty members” for the purpose of introducing support systems available through this university and local governments in order to support the faculty members with balancing work and family during pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, and caregiving of family members. We hope to support you with balancing work and family through various systems.

Support Details


Research Support Grants

This program is to support intended for full-time faculty members of this university whose research are limited due to pregnancy, parenting, or caregiving. Graduate students or students in the third year or above in this university can act as a research assistant or an administrative assistant.

Eligible Applicants:
A full-time faculty member of this university who requires support for research activities and meets the following criteria:
– Those who are pregnant, or whose spouse is pregnant
– Those who are parenting children in elementary school
– Those who are caring for family members (spouse or within the second degree of kinship)
Support Description:
One supported faculty can assign a research assistant or an administrative assistant . The research assistant supports the member with data analysis, experimentation and documentation, etc. The administrative assistant supports the member with paperwork.
(1) Support period (FY2019, second period)
(2) Support time: 40 hours or less
(3) Support cost: Research assistant 1,000 yen per hour, administrative assistant 900 yen per hour

Financial Support Program for Family Support Center

When a faculty member uses the family support center program (FSC), or childcare service for sick and convalescent children at an emergency support center (Emergency FSC), part of the expense will be subsidized.
Eligible applicants:

  1. ・Full-time faculty members of Saitama University.
  2. ・ Part-time members of this university, limited to those who are enrolled in social security)

Eligible for subsidy:

  1. ・Children from birth to the sixth grade of elementary school
  2. ・Children up to 18 years old for whom a physically disabled certificate or rehabilitation certificate is issued

Eligible parenting support activities:

  1. Before and after school childcare, childcare during school closures, and child’s transportation to/from school.
  2. Childcare for sick and convalescent children

Maximum subsidy payment:

  1. For the FSC, 20 hours per month per family
  2. For the emergency FSC, 20 hours per year per family

* Expenses other than the cost of using the FSC or emergency FSC, such as registration, food, transportation, cancellation, etc., are not subject to the subsidy.
In addition, in order to use the FSC or emergency FSC, membership registration is required.

Financial Support Program for Childcare for Sick Children

When a faculty member uses a childcare facility for sick and convalescent children, part of the expense will be subsidized.
Eligible applicants:

  1. ・Full-time faculty members of Saitama University.
  2. ・Part-time members of this university, limited to those who are enrolled in social security.)
    Eligible for subsidy:

Maximum subsidy payment: 2,000 yen per day per person and 10,000 per year per family
* Expenses other than the cost of using the childcare for sick and convalescent children, such as food, medical examinations, medication, transportation, registration, cancellation are not subject to the subsidy.

Babysitter Subsidy Program

When a faculty member uses babysitter service due to work part of the expense will be subsidized. This program is operated by the All Japan Childcare Services Association. In order to use the program, a discount ticket issued by this university is required.
Eligible applicants:Faculty members of this university and who are a member of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association orinsured employee by welfare pension insurance
Eligible children:Children from birth to the third grade of elementary school (or to the sixth grade of elementary school if care is required)
Discount amount:2,200 yen per day

Temporary childcare while you are working on holidays.

According to our university’s academic year, temporary childcare will be provided on the university entrance examination days, and the regular class days which are held on holidays and weekends.
