It is further divided into two categories:
(1) Study of Autonomous Behavior, i.e. the study of an isolated oscillator.
(2) Study of Coupled or collective Behavior, i.e. the study of interacting oscillators.

&color(blue){Linear vs Nonlinear};
Linear systems either show decaying behavior like radioactive substances or 
exhibit growth which eventually saturated like population growth of any species.
In contrast, Nonlinear systems have an ability to display self-sustained behavior, i.e. rhythmic activity, like heart rhythms, neuron activities in brain, etc.
