As a part of the International Graduate Program at Saitama University, the Graduate School of Science and Engineering offers highly qualified students the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies and research in the field of Engineering leading to a Doctor of Philosophy/ Engineering / Science*.
Energy System-Information Technology Innovation International Professional Program is designed to cover a wide spectrum of research fields in Materials Science, Electronics, Informatics and Mechanical Engineering. The program starts in either April or October and requires a standard three-year residency for the completion of a doctoral degree. Class instruction, research supervision and guidance are conducted in English, as well as dissertations, reports, examinations and presentations by students.
* The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, the Doctor of Engineering (S. Eng.), the Doctor of Science degree is conferred according to the content of the dissertation.

Eligibility
□ Have or expect to have a Master's Degree before enrollment.
□ A national of a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese Government.
□ Be under 35 years of age as of April 1st, 2025. (i.e. born on or after April 2nd, 1990)
□ Have excellent academic achievements.
□ Have a proof of one’s English language proficiency, such as an indicative minimum score of English language proficiency testtaken within the past 2 years. (i.e. 72 for TOEFL (IBT)/5.5 for IELTS or equivalent to CEFR B2 Level).
□ Be in both good mental and physical health.
□ Be residing outside Japan at the time of application and not a holder of Japanese nationality.
□ Be able to arrive in Japan on a date designated by Saitama University in the end of September 2025.
□ Not an awardee of the Japanese Government Scholarship during the last three years
*The MEXT scholarship covers application, admission and tuition fees, a monthly allowance of 145,000yen plus a supplemental regional allowance of 3,000yen per month. Also, Round-trip airfare from the awardee's home country is provided. The MEXT scholarship is granted for up to three years based on the satisfactory performance of the Doctoral student, not extendable beyond three years.

►Enrollment: April/October 2025►The applicant who has already secured a scholarship or other financial support, please provide the certificate issued by the supporter.
►Students in need of financial assistance must apply for scholarships on their own before or after enrollment.

3)Official Certificate of Grades from most recent academic institution attended (Undergraduate or Graduate degree program)
(MUST be the original or attested copy of the original, stating number of credits and the year/period of credit acquisition for each course undertaken. MUST include or be accompanied by a certificate that shows a clear explanation of all possible levels used in grade evaluation (i.e. A, B, C, D, Fail, etc.…)
4)Official Certificate of Graduation or Expected Graduation from most recent academic institution attended (Graduate degree program)
(MUST be the original or attested copy of the original)
5)Abstract of thesis written for most recent academic degree awarded.
(MUST be a brief summary (no more than one A4 page) of the most recent thesis you wrote, or if you did not write a thesis, a graduation project or term paper.)
6)Copy of passport page containing the applicant's name and date of birth or a copy of your family register or residence certificate
7)Certificate of English Proficiency (an official score of TOEFL or IELTS or equivalent) (MUST be the original or attested copies of the original. The score must be taken within the past 2 years. If the applicant’s most recent graduated course was instructed in English, it can be an official letter to prove that medium language of instruction was English instead of English Proficiency test Certificate.)
8)Two Letters of Recommendation (LOR 1-2 & 2-2)
One of the letters must be from the Dean, or a person of equivalent or higher position, at the applicant’s school or institution. The other letter can be from your supervisor or a person of equivalent.
Your recommenders must email the letter directly to our Foreign Student Office.(rese@gr.saitama-u.ac.jp)
► SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCEDURE
Evaluation of applications will be based on the candidate's scholastic ability and research potential assessed from previous credentials, recommendation letters and essays on specific topics.
During the selection process, short-listed candidates will be contacted through internet-based interviews or other appropriate means. Details for these interviews will be sent out to short-listed candidates.
A mathematics exam could be held depending on the supervisor’s demand.
For the selection of the MEXT scholarship, after University selection procedure, the lists of nominees are sent to the MEXT Office for final approval.

You may choose your desired course and supervisor from this list.
You are advised to consult with the professor you want to be instructed by. Students may not be accepted due to the retirement of the professor or any other cause.
You may contact Admission Office (rese@gr.saitama-u.ac.jp) for forwarding the message to the applicant’s desired supervisor(s).
