Why I entered GSC program

Microplastic pollution in agricultural soil is prime concern now a days. As a soil scientist, my keen interest in this issue. Therefore, I am searching for an opportunity to work on it during my doctoral research. Fortunately, I knew the Green and Sustainable Chemical Technologies (GSC) of Saitama University that was established to foster better cross-cultural connections among young scientists worldwide. As Japan is one of the world's leading environmental conservation nations, I would be able to enrich my knowledge for addressing the crucial environmental issues by GSC support.

Research title

Investigation of micro plastics pollution in agrarian soils of Bangladesh and their subsequent health hazards

Research abstract

Microplastic has become a buzzword among environmental scientists these days due to its long-term detrimental effect on the environment. Despite more accumulation of plastic products, soil remains neglected as compared to the ocean. Therefore, this research has been focused on microplastic distribution in agricultural fields. The identified particles were analyzed to detect their types and surface morphology by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and electron microscopy, respectively. The morphology and possible sources of MPs will also be determined. In addition, the estimated concentration of MPs revealed how much the risk for the farming communities will be determined. This research finding will give an idea of the microplastic contamination in agricultural soil of Bangladesh and their subsequent health risks.
