Saitama University has created the Faculty and Staff Childcare and Nursing Care Support Systems Guidebook to introduce the support systems at the university and in the local community to help you balance work and family life during pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and when you need to care for a family member. Please take advantage of these systems to achieve work-life balance.

Family Support Subsidy Program

A portion of expenses incurred will be subsidized when you make use of the childcare assistance provided by the Family Support Center Program (Fami-Support) or the Emergency Support Center’s Childcare Assistance Program for Sick and Recovering Children (Emergency Fami-Support).
Users:Faculty and staff of Saitama University (for part-time staff, only those enrolled in social insurance)
Individuals eligible for subsidies:

  1. Infants and children from 0 years old to the 6th grade of elementary school; children up to 18 years old who have a Physical Disability Certificate or Rehabilitation Handbook.

Childcare eligible for subsidies:

  1. Taking care of children before and after the period of childcare at a daycare center, kindergarten, elementary school, after-school children’s club, etc. or during vacations, and transporting children to and from these facilities.
  2. Taking care of sick and recovering children

Maximum payment for childcare eligible for subsidies:

  1. 20 hours per family per month for Fami-Support
  2. 20 hours per family per year for Emergency Fami-Support

* Other than compensation for the use of core services of Fami-Support or Emergency Fami-Support, fees such as membership fees, meals, transportation, and cancellation fees are not covered by this subsidy.
In order to use Fami-Support or Emergency Fami-Support, you must be registered as a member of the relevant program.

Subsidy for Childcare for Sick Children Program

Partial subsidies are provided for the fees for using facilities that provide childcare for sick and recovering children.
Users: Faculty and staff of Saitama University (for part-time staff, only those enrolled in social insurance)
Individuals eligible for subsidies:
Infants and children who are eligible according to the regulations of the local government that provides childcare services for sick and recovering children.
Maximum payment for childcare eligible for subsidies: 2,000 yen per eligible child per day, 10,000 yen per family per year
* Fees other than the fees for childcare for sick and recovering children, such as meals, doctor’s fees, medications and other medical fees, transportation, registration fees, and cancellation fees, are not covered by this subsidy.

Subsidy Program for After-School Childcare

This program helps female faculty balance their research activities and childcare by partially subsidizing the fees for those faculty members whose children use the after-school childcare service. * Not implemented in FY2023.
Users: Full-time female faculty members of Saitama University with children in elementary school.
Maximum payment for childcare eligible for subsidies: 10,000 yen per year
* Fees other than the fees for after-school childcare, such as meals, materials, event fees, transportation, and registration fees, are not covered by this subsidy.

Babysitter Dispatch Service

This is a program implemented by the All Japan Childcare Services Association to subsidize a portion of the cost of babysitting services for those who use babysitters due to work or other reasons. You will need a discount coupon issued by the university to use this program.
Users: Faculty and staff employed by Saitama University and enrolled in the MEXT Mutual Aid Association and Employees’ Pension Insurance.
Eligible children: Children from 0 years old to the 3rd grade of elementary school (up to 6th grade if care is required)
Discount: 2,200 yen per day

Temporary Childcare when Working on Holidays

Temporary childcare services are provided when holidays on the academic calendar become workdays and on the test days of the National Center Test for University Admissions, which are held on Saturdays and Sundays. Some nursery schools also have usage agreements with the university, so please contact us for more information.
