Consultations on Starting International Joint Research

For our female faculty members who wish to start international joint research, faculty members who are conducting or have conducted international joint research act as advisors and provide consultations on the startup and management of joint research projects.

President’s Special Award (Mizuki Award)

The university presents this award to female researchers who have been recognized for their outstanding achievements in education and research and who serve as leaders for other female researchers.

Career Development Support

To encourage the promotion and advancement of female researchers in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering and to increase the ratio of female faculty members in upper-level positions, research funding is provided to female researchers in the fields of science and engineering.

* This program was implemented for three years starting in fiscal year 2017. Not currently implemented.

Research Assistance Program

This program is designed to support the research activities of full-time faculty members who are pregnant, caring for a child, or caring for a relative who face restrictions due to childbirth, childcare, or nursing care by assigning a graduate student or undergraduate student enrolled in the third year or above at Saitama University as a research assistant.

Eligibility:
Full-time faculty members of Saitama University who need assistance with research activities and who:
・Are pregnant or have a pregnant spouse
・Are raising a child who is a sixth grade elementary school student or younger
・Are caring for a relative (limited to a spouse or a relative within the second degree consanguinity)
Details of support:
One research assistant or administrative assistant will be assigned per eligible faculty member. The research assistant will provide research support, such as data analysis, assistance with experiments, and preparation of documents, as directed by the faculty member eligible for research assistance (or their representative). Administrative assistants will perform supplementary tasks, such as completing administrative procedures.
(1)Support period (in case of the second round for FY2023)
Up to one month between October 1, 2023 and February 29, 2024
(2) Support time: Up to 40 hours
(3) Cost of support: Research assistant: 1,200 yen/hour; Administrative assistant: 1,100 yen/hour

Part-time Support Researcher Program

This program is designed to support the research activities of female faculty members who are pregnant, caring for a child, or caring for a relative who face restrictions due to childbirth, childcare, or nursing care by assigning a graduate student or other individual (excluding undergraduate students) at Saitama University as a part-time support researcher.

* Not currently implemented.

Eligibility:
Full-time female faculty members of Saitama University who need assistance with research activities and who:
・Are pregnant
・Are raising a child who is a sixth grade elementary school student or younger
・Are caring for a relative (limited to a spouse or a relative within the second degree consanguinity)

Details of support:
One part-time support researcher can be assigned per eligible faculty member. The part-time support researcher will provide support so that the faculty member eligible for this program can continue working on their research projects.
(1) Support period (in the case of FY2019)
One or more months between June 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020
(2) Support time: Up to 10 hours per week
(3) Salary: 1,124-1,237 yen/hour (depending on years of experience after university graduation)

Restart Research Grant Program

The Restart Research Grant Program aims to support research activities by providing research grants to full-time female faculty members who have resumed their research activities after having unavoidably suspended their research careers due to childbirth, childcare, nursing care, etc., thereby promoting their research activities or reducing the burden they face upon their return.

* Not currently implemented.

Eligibility:
Full-time female faculty members of Saitama University who meet the following two qualifications:
(1) Women who have unavoidably suspended their research activities for around at least three consecutive months due to maternity leave, childcare leave, or nursing care leave (including days off for nursing care).
(2) Women who, at the time of application, have returned from the leave described in the previous item within the past two years.

The grant amount is expected to be 100,000 yen. Only expenses necessary for the execution of research activities are eligible. In addition, the funds must be used for research activities during the fiscal year.
