OTHER ACTIVITIES
We participate in various international programs, such as the Young Scientist Exchange Program of JSPS.
We go on a trip to Karuizawa every summer. We stay in the Karuizawa cottage of Saitama University for a couple of days and have a short seminar with research presentation. After the seminar, we have a BBQ party and go out for a hot spring near the cottage. Karuizawa is a famous resort place with full of nature, located in Nagano Prefecture. We spend a relaxing time, playing tennis, hiking in the forest, and visiting tourist spots.
2018/04〜2019/03 UC Berkeley
Assistant Prof. Hiroko Takahashi stayed in the Laboratory of Prof. Krishna Niyogi, the University of California, Berkeley for a year. She worked in the regulation of a gene involved in the non-photochemical quenching, which plays a role in the thermal dissipation of excitation energy captured by photosynthesis.
2015/04〜2016/10 UC Berkeley
Haruhiko Jimbo (D1) stayed in the Laboratory of Prof. Krishna Niyogi, the University of California, Berkeley for a year and a half. He worked in the crosstalk of gene expression between chloroplastic and nuclear genomes in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

We hosted Ms. Penporn Sae-Tang (from Thailand) as a doctoral student on the MEXT program. She worked on the antioxidative system of cyanobacteria and received Ph.D. in September 2016 from Saitama University.
2011/04-2016/03
We hosted Ms. Rayakorn Yutthanasirikul (from Thailand) as a doctoral student on the MEXT program. She worked on the translation factor EF-Tu of cyanobacteria and received Ph.D. in March 2016 from Saitama University.

Mr. Taku Yoneyama (B4) visited the laboratory of Prof. Zoltán Gombos at Biological Research Center, Szeged, Hungary.

Mr. Takuya Hamaguchi (B4) visited the laboratory of Prof. Eva-Mari Aro at the University of Turku, Turku, Finland, together with Ms. Masumi Ohtsuru.

Mr. Shuhei Inoue (B4) visited the laboratory of Prof. Eva-Mari Aro at the University of Turku, Turku, Finland, together with Prof. Nishiyama.
